S336 Server
The Model S336 Radiant Server provides an industry standard computing platform for single station and back office scenarios. Radiant Systems’ selection of the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor with a matching Intel 945 chipset and Intel motherboard ensures quality, performance, and scalability. The S336 form factor provides the functionality, high performance, and affordability required for retail applications. The product will be procured to provide a long life relative to the PC market, and Intel “Corporate Stable” components have been selected.
The S336 offers a robust server solution through specification of a 3.0 GHz Pentium® 4 with HT Technology, 800 MHz front side bus, and Intel’s 945GTP chipset. For users who do not require the high end cpu power, the Celeron 2.93GHz cpu can be used to provide a lower cost solution. With fast processor and front side bus speeds, DDR2 SDRAM, PCIx, and USB 2.0 support, the S336 provides enough power for the most demanding software.
Intel’s Pentium 4 processor at 3.0 GHz includes 2MB L2 cache, and is designed for tomorrow’s emerging business usages. This processor includes Intel’s Hyper-Threading Technology, which improves system responsiveness by enabling the processor to execute multiple instruction threads in parallel.
In addition to the increase in raw processing power, the S336 also provides graphics performance improvements. Radiant Systems’ S336 makes use of Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 graphics, a revolutionary graphics core that delivers intense, realistic 3D graphics with sharp images, fast rendering, smooth motion and incredible detail. This unique architecture enables balanced memory usage between graphics and the system for optimal performance. GMA 950 architecture was uniquely designed to complement the capabilities of the Intel Pentium 4 processor.
The S336 also features the CRU Dataport removable hard drive as optional components for users who want to provide reliable, portable data solutions. The removable drive utilizes a SATA interface and long-life ball bearing fans to help keep hard drives cool even in the most intense environments. With support for on-board RAID, the 80 GB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive allows the client to backup a significant amount of data. Thus, day-to-day backups are guaranteed, and disaster recovery issues are mitigated.
The S336 solution is built upon the Intel Desktop Board D945GTP platform. This mATX board features next-generation processor and dual-channel DDR2 memory support, integrated Intel® GMA 950 Graphics, both PCI and PCIx slots, 8 USB 2.0 ports, Firewire, integrated audio, on-board RAID control, and an on-board Gigabit Ethernet connection.
Radiant Systems’ S336 is flexible so that it can support dual Ethernet ports (optional). One of the ports is integrated to the motherboard and second is an Intel PRO/1000GT Network Interface Card (NIC) located on the PCI slot. It provides flexible backwards support for Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and mixed bandwidth networks in addition to the native Gigabit Ethernet. The adapter utilizes 32-bit data technology and complies with IEEE 802.2.3ab specifications. The connectors are RJ-45 and uses standard CAT5 cable. Solutions currently operating in a 100 Mbps environment have an immediate upgrade path to a 1000Mbps solution.
The tower chassis incorporates support for four external 5.25” bays and one external 3.5” bay. The 5.25” bays can be used with the previously mentioned locking Removable Hard Drive drawers for flexible data solutions. Front USB and Firewire are also featured. The 400W power supply selected for the S336 includes features like Active PFC and Full Range support to prevent the requirement to manually switch the power input between US and Intl settings.
The S336 is designed to be a highly manageable and flexible platform. The product provides a complete hardware, software and operating system solution to address retail industry requirements.
