S4600 Server
The S4600 is a compact, hardened, fit-for-purpose product from Radiant Systems. The platform provides a powerful, yet economical solution for both transaction processing and site controller needs in retail environments. It is based on Intel x86 (standard PC) architecture and is able to run a very wide range of operating systems.
The S4600 combines the best of traditional point of sale workstation functionality with the open architecture and investment protection of industry standard PC technology. Designed to withstand the most demanding retail environments, it delivers the reliability that is expected from Radiant Systems for mission critical retail solutions.
The 300W auto-switching power supply can support input from US and International power. The fan for the power supply offers speed control so it will only spin to full rpm’s when the temperature rises. This solution results in a better acoustic level and provides higher reliability for the fan.
The S4600 includes two options for the front bezel, the locking metal bezel which is good for customers who want to prevent tampering with their system once it is installed in a retail site, and the standard plastic front bezel. Wall mount and under the counter mounting are available. The counter mounting is great for use in areas that are limited in space.
This platform has a compact enclosure with the dimensions of 136mm H x 370mm D x 329mm W (5.3"H x 14.5"D x 12.9"W). The S4600 is designed to be mounted in the small desktop orientation. S4600 is extremely versatile; thus it can be configured as a thin client, web kiosk, multimedia information station, site controller, point of sale workstation, firewall and more. It is designed to help retailers reduce their total cost of ownership, as well as lower administration and support costs.
The chipset choice for S4600 is the Intel 945GTP. The Intel® 945GTP chipset is optimized to support the Intel® Celeron D, Pentium D, and Pentium 4 processors. The Intel 945GTP chipset incorporates Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 graphics technology, running at 800 MHz core speed (Celeron D 533 MHz), which enables high performance graphics applications. The chipset supports DDR 2 memory bus, high speed USB 2.0 communications and Intel® High Definition Audio; SigmaTel STAC9220 for audio control.
The S4600 is a highly configurable and flexible platform: it can leverage the on-board RAID controller to support RAID 0, 1, or 1+0 arrays. RAID adds security against data loss in the case of hard drive failure.
